A great example is given using this particular situation. The lack of intellectual honesty in society today, particularly in media, politics, and the public-at-large is astonishing.
Intellectual honesty is a kind of "right is right, wrong is wrong no matter who it is" belief system. It removes bias, partisanship, etc, and looks at the situation equally and fairly. For example, if it's wrong when a Democrat does it, it's wrong when a Republican does it. If it's praiseworthy when a Republican does it, it is praiseworthy when a Democrat does it. All have their feet held to the fire and all are given credit where credit is due.
It seems people are so locked into echo chambers, cognitive dissonance, and a need for confirmation bias, that any dirt, smear, or unfounded claim will do. It doesn't matter what the facts are; as long as the other side can be tarnished.
This is sick, it is wrong, and it needs to stop.
We are ALL better than this.
