You may have heard that the latest census numbers cause big shifts in congressional representation, hitting blue states with losses and some red states with gains.
What you may not know is that the numbers appear to have been altered to give red states smaller gains and blue states smaller losses, which also affects final seat numbers.
According to Town Hall, "The evidence is now only circumstantial, but when errors or revisions are almost all only in one direction, the alarm bells appropriately go off."
Five different issues were raised, including New York annual population/migration changes, blue states numbers revised upward from estimates, red states numbers revised downward from estimates, 28 states were off by more than 1- 4.5 percent this time versus typically being within 0.2 - 0.4 percent, and that almost every huge difference went in favor of the Dems.
Republicans raised the alarm as well, according to the New York Post.
In a letter to the Commerce Secretary they wrote, "We write today with concerns about the apportionment count released by the Census Bureau, and whether the process which derived the count was fair, accurate, and independent from any White House interference.
Given the extra time it took to complete the 2020 Census – including not meeting the statutory deadlines by months – we have questions about the methodology and the role the Biden White House may have played in releasing these numbers, especially as the results differ from evaluation estimates released mere months ago in ways that benefit blue states over red states.”
They went on to add, "When our staff contacted the Census Bureau on the morning of the release with questions about the apportionment count, they were referred by Census officials to the White House for questions.
Yet the statute is clear: it is the Secretary of Commerce who reports the apportionment count to the President, not the other way around. Referring our staff’s questions to the White House about the results produced by the Census Bureau is entirely inappropriate, and raises questions about the level of White House involvement in the process."
But it's probably all a big coincidence, right?
Nothing to see here, folks. Move along ...
